Sirajgonj is the northern district of Bangladesh, and the severity of winter is more pronounced than in any other part of the country. Every year, people suffer from bone-chilling cold. Many poor people cannot afford to buy blankets to endure the winter. We have distributed blankets among 100 poor people. The initiative is funded by Abundance of Good Inc, USA, and implemented by the Socio-Economic Development Alliance-SEDA.

Shirina Akhter’s labor pains began at 12 noon, causing concern among her family. The lack of roads in the island union Padmapukur posed a challenge for quick transportation to the hospital, especially for pregnant women. In this difficult situation, they reached out to the water ambulance, which promptly arrived at their house. Thanks to the swift response, the pregnant woman was safely transported to the hospital, where she gave birth to a healthy baby girl. The water ambulance continues to play a crucial role in supporting the healthcare needs of the people along the Shyamnagar coast.

The distance of Nawabeki on land from Chandipur (patient’s house) in Padmapukur, an island union of Shyamnagar, is 7 km, which has to be covered by crossing the river.
At the beginning of the land for treatment, Nawabeki lacks an advanced medical service system. From there, one has to travel 15 km by road or 60 km by car to the district.
Ambulance Services: If there were no water ambulance, the patient would have to be carried by hand in a small dinghy boat at night, covering 7 kilometers across two vast rivers to reach the ground, which takes a lot of time.
Generally, the island union has poor road connectivity. The roads are unpaved, and there is no other transport except motorcycles.
It is impossible to transport patients through that, so the only viable option is the river route in this area.
