5. Project Objective

The primary objective of the Water Ambulance Project was to ensure emergency healthcare services for the remote island communities of Satkhira, particularly in areas with poor transportation and limited access to medical facilities.

The project aimed to provide urgent transportation support for pregnant women, critically ill patients, mothers, and children through water ambulance services, thereby reducing preventable deaths during emergencies.

6. Project Background

The island unions of Gabura and Padmapukur in Satkhira face severe communication and transportation challenges due to their geographical isolation and river-based connectivity.

Because of inadequate road communication and delayed access to health facilities:

  • Many pregnant women are forced to deliver children on river routes
  • Maternal and child deaths occur during emergency transportation
  • Critically ill patients often fail to reach healthcare centers on time

To address these challenges, the Water Ambulance Project was initiated as an emergency health support intervention for disadvantaged communities.

The project was implemented in:

  • Gabura Union, Satkhira
  • Padmapukur Union, Satkhira

8. Activities Implemented

Under this project, the following activities were carried out:

  • Provision of water ambulance services for emergency patient transportation
  • Transportation support for pregnant women for safe institutional delivery
  • Emergency referral services for mothers and children
  • Medical transportation assistance for critically ill patients
  • Community support for accessing healthcare facilities during emergencies

The project achieved the following outcomes:

  • The audit report has been submitted and accepted by the NGO Affairs Bureau.
  • The project completion report has been submitted.
  • The certification from the local administration has been submitted.

12. Conclusion

The Water Ambulance Project was successfully implemented with financial support from Global Charitable & Welfare Foundation and executed by Socio Economic Development Alliance.

This project played a vital role in improving emergency healthcare access for vulnerable people in the coastal island unions of Satkhira. The initiative significantly contributed to saving lives and reducing health-related risks among mothers, children, and disadvantaged patients.

The successful completion of this project demonstrates the importance of continuing such life-saving interventions in remote coastal areas.
