Project Objective

To ensure access to education for children living in climate-vulnerable coastal areas of Bangladesh who are affected by severe climatic impacts, poverty, and recurring natural disasters, and to support the continuity of their education.

Project Background

Children living in the island unions adjacent to the Sundarbans in Satkhira are often deprived of education due to poverty and the adverse effects of climate change. These coastal communities are frequently affected by cyclones, tidal surges, salinity intrusion, and other natural disasters, which create financial hardship for families and disrupt children’s education.

Considering these challenges, this project was implemented to provide educational support to vulnerable children, enabling them to continue their studies and build a better future.

Activities Implemented

The following activities were carried out under the project:

  • Educational support for children from climate-affected poor families
  • Distribution of educational materials
  • Support initiatives to ensure regular school attendance
  • Awareness-building among parents regarding the importance of education
  • Community motivation programs to promote children’s education in coastal areas

Project Achievements

Through this project, access to education for underprivileged children in the Sundarbans-adjacent island unions of Satkhira was significantly enhanced.

Many children were able to continue or resume their education, while awareness among parents and guardians regarding the value of education increased substantially.

The project also contributed to establishing education as an effective long-term adaptation strategy for climate resilience in coastal communities.

Ensuring education for children in coastal climate-vulnerable areas is not only a social responsibility but also a crucial step toward building long-term resilience against climate change.

The joint initiative of Socio Economic Development Alliance and Canadian Supporting Global Communities (CSGC) has created a positive impact on the lives of children in the Sundarbans-adjacent coastal communities of Satkhira and laid a strong foundation for their future development.
